EAGAN, Minn., April 26, 2004 - Kentucky attorneys working
toward their June 30 compliance deadline for mandatory continuing
legal education (MCLE) are turning to online services such as West
LegalEdcenter®(www.westlegaledcenter.com)
from West. West LegalEdcenter makes it easy for attorneys to earn
CLE credits online at their convenience from their home or office.
West is a Thomson business (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and the leading
provider of integrated information solutions to legal
professionals.
Attorneys licensed in Kentucky are required to complete 12.5 CLE
credits every year; six of those may be earned online through
technical transmissions, including live Webcasts and on-demand
programs. More than 150 West LegalEdcenter programs are accredited
in Kentucky from local providers such as the Kentucky Academy of
Trial Attorneys, Kentucky Access Center Partnership, Kentucky Bar
Association and the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy. West
LegalEdcenter also brings programs from national CLE providers,
such as the American Bar Association, Practising Law Institute,
ALI-ABA and many more, to Kentucky attorneys. Topics include
federal civil procedure, family law, estate planning, employment
law, bankruptcy and more.
Lisa Wharton is an attorney with Thompson Hine LLP in Cincinnati
who is also licensed in Kentucky. "West LegalEdcenter is a
great use of technology - and such an improvement over having to
travel to attend programs in person," she said. "I can
keep up with my work responsibilities while receiving the same
high-quality professional development experience available through
in-person seminars."
"I appreciate this opportunity to keep my license current
with online CLE from West LegalEdcenter," said Twyla S.
Trujillo of Ghent, Ky. "Because I am a stay-at-home mom with
two sets of twins, the babysitter costs plus the cost of CLE really
add up. Online CLE attendance allows me to eliminate the babysitter
costs and minimize my time away."
West LegalEdcenter offers the Internet's largest and most
current collection of CLE programs. The programs come from a broad
range of state and nationally accredited CLE producers and feature
leading authorities, ensuring that West LegalEdcenter offers
topical and jurisdictional CLE programs that meet attorneys'
information and law practice needs. Some of West LegalEdcenter?s
distinctive features include live Webcasts and on-demand programs,
video and audio formats, downloadable and printable copies of
program materials and handouts, and links from online courses to
related documents on Westlawâ, the online legal research
service from West.
