NEW YORK and EAGAN, Minn., January 8, 2004 - The Association
of the Bar of the City of New York (ABCNY) today announced that it
has signed an exclusive agreement to make its live webcast online
continuing legal education (CLE) programs available at West
LegalEdcenterTM(westlegaledcenter.com), the
nation's leading online CLE service from West, a Thomson
business (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC). With this agreement, ABCNY joins a
distinguished roster of CLE providers, including local, state and
national bar associations, offering high-quality, innovative CLE
courses to legal professionals via the Web through West
LegalEdcenter.
"ABCNY has committed itself to providing a framework for
the professional and ethical practice of law for more than 130
years," says Michelle Schwartz-Clement, director of
ABCNY's Center for CLE. "Providing CLE programs is a major
component of that commitment, and making those programs available
live online enables us to reach more attorneys than we could by
offering the classes only in person."
"This partnership with ABCNY is an important example of how
West LegalEdcenter brings the live CLE programs attorneys need to
them on their own terms though the Web," notes Steve Daitch,
vice president and general manager of West LegalEdcenter.
"Live webcasts are a valuable tool for users who want to
interact with presenters but don't want to travel across town
or across the country for a seminar. Now they have the option of
tuning in from anywhere in the world and can still ask questions
and participate in the programs."
West LegalEdcenter includes unmatched innovative features such
as links from course materials to Westlaw®, the leading online
research service from West; customer service and technical support
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and the most
comprehensive law firm and corporate law department CLE
Administrators Tool Kit to easily and seamlessly manage CLE
attendance and usage.
