The American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and
Resources www.abanet.org/environ/home.html
is the premier forum for lawyers working in areas related to the
environment, natural resources, and energy. It offers members
opportunities to enhance professional skills, stay on top of
developments, and communicate with peers about these substantive
areas.
Representing more than 10,000 members with a wide range of
professional interests, section activities offer members invaluable
avenues for communication and interaction. The Section keeps its
members abreast of development trends, current court decisions,
legislative initiatives, and statutes concerning environmental,
natural resources, and energy law.
Section membership benefits include cutting-edge publications
such as the member newsletter, Trends; the quarterly
Natural Resources and Environment magazine; and
The Year in Review, a publication full of reference
materials and case work. Books, CLE course materials, and committee
newsletters are also available.
The Section Fall Meeting offers many educational programs as
well as opportunities to meet Section leadership and learn about
the Section committee activities. Other educational opportunities,
most of which offer MCLE credit, include stand alone programs,
roundtables, committee brown bag programs, satellite CLE titles,
and teleconferences.
Members are invited to join as may as five of the 38 substantive
committees, which fall into three groups - environmental, energy
and resources, and cross-practice. Committees are where much of the
program development, publications and substantive issues-related
work begins. Committee membership fosters active involvement in
helping to set the direction of the Section and in planning
relevant programs. Numerous web boards and list serves also help
facilitate communication.
