Description:

There are usually some funds left over after a class action settlement or judgment has been administered. But what do you do with those residual funds? Often, they are distributed on a cy pres—or "as near as"—basis to charitable organizations. This seminar will explore recent developments in state and federal law on the subject, including the new Illinois statute, 735 ILCS 5/2-807, which requires that at least 50% of residual funds in Illinois cases be distributed to charitable organizations dedicated to equal justice.
